Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid was initially built by Malik Amber in 1615 A.D., this part of the mosque consisted of 5 arches (North-South wise) and (east-west wise) on three arches.

In about 1650 A.D Aurangzeb the last grand Mughal Emperor built the extension of 3 arches (North-East wise) and 2 arches each (East-west wise) Thus the mosque comprised of 55 arches.

During the same period, Aurangzeb Got constructed 47 rooms in the mosque. When, Aurangzeb who was till then the governor of Deccan, shifted to Delhi in his capacity as the Mughal emperor succeeding Shahjehan The rooms of the mosque were allotted to the two famous saints of Jalna to run the madrasa. Then followed a long period when these rooms remained unoccupied. Then by the efforts of late Hafiz Abdus Sattar the Imam of Jama Masjid (during the last days of Nizam of Deccan.), the rooms were availed for a hostel for Muslim students.

Then in 1959, Maulana Mohammad Sayeed Khan laid the foundation of Madrasa (now a Jamia) Kashiful Uloom utilizing a few rooms of the Jama Masjid. A humble beginning was made with the faculty of Hifz (learning the Quran by heart). By the grace of Allah the almighty, that small madrasa has now burgeoned into Jamia. For which credit goes to Maulana Riyazuddin Farooqui Nadvi  -the Ex-Rector of Jamia- and his colleagues. It stands now as the biggest University of Islamic Studies in the region of Marathwada.

Once more by the grace god almighty two Philanthropists viz. ِSaleem Ahmed Khan S/o. Bismillah Khan Proprietor Ellora  construction and Mohammed Aslam Khan S/o Abdul Ghaffur Khan came forward to voluntarily renovate the Jama Masjid. Both these gentlemen removing the plaster of the mosque from the domes to downward at the floor of the mosque renovated it with granite slabs with granite will. The upper work was done with chemical plaster. The work of renovation is still in progress.

The name of these two philanthropists will be remembered along with Malik Amber and Aurangzeb Alamgir who are the first architects of this historic Jame-Masjid Aurangabad which has housed the historic Jamia of Kashiful Uloom Aurangabad.
